Hana AMT established a mass production system for new ultra-light Mg-Li materials
- Securing aluminum alloy strength Half weight, all imported Mg alloy replacement
- High ductility, low defect, processing and formability advantages, mobility, electronic devices, and expected to be applied to dissipation
Hana AMT Co., Ltd., a company specializing in the development of metal powders and new materials, has completed the development of new ultra-light Mg-Li (magnesium-lithium)-based materials and is expected to mass-produce them.
Hana AMT Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Hong-mul) announced on the 21st that it has completed the construction of a mass production system by developing new ultra-light Mg-Li materials and low vacuum continuous casting (LVCC) processes by transferring original technology from Dr. Son Hyun-taek of the Korea Institute of Production and Technology.
The new Mg-Li material is composed of an alloy of magnesium and lithium, and is characterized by excellent ductility. In addition, it has been named Air Metal because the defect rate during the process is less than that of general magnesium alloys and the weight is as light as air.
In particular, the material has a density of 1.4 g/cm3, which is half the weight of aluminum. Nevertheless, it is lighter than CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic), and its physical strength is similar to that of aluminum alloys. In addition, it is suitable for mass production due to its excellent processability and moldability, easy extrusion roll pressing, and excellent weldability.
Through the development of new materials and the establishment of a mass production system, Hana AMT will be able to replace imports of magnesium alloy items that have been entirely dependent on imports. Through this, it has secured competitiveness in the field of lightweight structural materials.
The new material is suitable for all transportation devices such as △UAM (Ucity air transportation) △ drone △ unmanned aircraft △ fighter △ electric bicycles, etc., where ultra-light materials are applied, and can contribute to improving fuel efficiency and increasing device efficiency.
In addition, various demands are expected in the future as it can be widely applied to portable electronic device parts that require ultra-light materials such as △ laptop case △ tablet body △ mobile phone frame.
An official from Hana AMT Co., Ltd. said, "The new ultra-light material developed this time has been adopted and supplied for mass production in the case of ultra-light laptops of domestic electronics companies," adding, "and added, "We are trying to expand the scope of application to the defense industry in the future."
"With the completion of the development of new Mg-Li materials, we have established a mass production system to save foreign currency by replacing lightweight alloys that were all imported," said Kim Hong-mul, CEO of Hana AMT.
